Tea House workers have been praying for imam/believer interaction and were excited when they heard the following story from their region. After the death of a woman who had converted from Islam to Christianity, the people who usually come and take care of a body wouldn’t come because she had made her faith public, so her pastor was called, and he gathered people from her church to help. They came, prepared and buried the body on land that the pastor had access to, and returned to her house for five days of Bible study and worship.
Two local imams came to observe what they expected would be the woman’s disgrace because she left Islam, a cautionary tale about leaving the religion. What they found instead was the body buried, the house in order, and a roomful of people singing happily instead of desperately participating in Muslim customs that would help her soul get to heaven.
The imams implored: “What is this? Please explain this hope we see.” Then they went and brought 20 more religious leaders to the house to observe for themselves, and find out more about this radically different belief system. A few even returned that night, like Nicodemus visiting Jesus, to hear more.
As our international workers state: “There are cracks in the system of how to do life as a Muslim here, and God wants to bust it all wide open, replacing lies with truth, death with life.” Amen!
