Letter from Sojourn to potential applicants

The intent of this profile is to tell you 1) who we are as a church community 2) by describing the characteristics that we value in a senior pastor, 3) by articulating a vision or direction for our future and 4) provide a picture of the greater community of Tumwater, Olympia and Lacey Washington.

During a recent sermon and then during a congregational meeting we were challenged to consider three Ws; the Word of God, the Work of God and the Wonder of God. As we assessed ourselves we affirmed that we love and value the Word of God. Our previous pastors preached the biblical truth and used God’s word to guide their lives and spurred us on to do the same.  We also admitted that we look forward to seeing God at work in our lives and are in awe of how He works situations out.   What a wonder it is to see God caring for His people.  And finally we were confronted by our lack of willingness to do God’s work. We find it easy to care for the body of Christ, but as a corporate body we hang back from making an impact in our community.

We are praying and waiting for the man that God is calling to help us grow in each of these areas so that we become faithful and mature servants of God and are used by God to be a light in the darkness.  The ideal candidate will model both the behaviors of reaching the lost in our community and will work with the congregation to mentor us in reaching the lost. Finally, we are open to the possibility of going through a redevelopment process as a starting point with a new pastor.

Please prayerfully consider the following information.   If you are interested in this vacancy please include a letter of interest, a resume, and letters of recommendation to office@sojournlacey.com or to Sojourn Community Church 8004 Pacific Avenue SE Lacey, Washington 98503.  If you have any questions or want to know more about the position please contact us at office@sojournlacey.com.

Respectfully,

Sojourn Community Church Governing Board
